Adaptive Learning Systems Journal (ALSJ) is an international, open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal positioned at the nexus of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, data analytics, and personalized education. The journal is dedicated to publishing groundbreaking research on the architecture, algorithmic design, implementation, and evaluation of adaptive and intelligent learning environments. ALSJ provides a critical, interdisciplinary forum for computer scientists, educational technologists, data experts, and cognitive psychologists to explore how computational models can dynamically tailor educational experiences to meet individual learner needs, cognitive trajectories, and behavioral patterns.

Scope and Topics

ALSJ welcomes high-quality empirical studies, novel system architectures, algorithmic implementations, conceptual frameworks, and comprehensive survey papers. The scope encompasses, but is not limited to, the following domains:

  • Algorithmic Personalization & AI Models: Machine learning models, predictive analytics, intelligent tutoring systems (ITS), knowledge tracing, and adaptive scaffolding algorithms.

  • Cognitive Modeling & Learner Analytics: Student modeling, affective computing, cognitive load optimization, eye-tracking, and behavioral analytics in digital learning spaces.

  • Data-Driven Instructional Design: Dynamic content generation, adaptive assessment paradigms, automated feedback loops, and personalized learning pathways.

  • System Engineering & Architecture: Interoperability standards, scalable ed-tech infrastructures, open learner models, and cloud-native adaptive platforms.

  • Ethics, Governance & Human-Centric Design: Algorithmic bias, explainable AI in education (XAI-Ed), student data privacy, accessibility, and human-in-the-loop adaptive systems.

Publication Frequency

Adaptive Learning Systems Journal (ALSJ) is published biannually (Two issues per year: March and September), providing immediate, continuous open access to foster rapid academic exchange and technological innovation.

Peer Review Process

ALSJ maintains stringent academic standards through a thorough double-blind peer-review process. Each submission undergoes an initial desk evaluation by the Editorial Board to assess its technical relevance, scope alignment, and originality. Submissions that pass the initial screening are reviewed by at least two independent expert referees in computer science and educational technology. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on technical correctness, algorithmic efficiency, theoretical rigor, empirical validity, and transformative impact on adaptive learning research.

Mission Statement

The mission of Adaptive Learning Systems Journal (ALSJ) is to lead the technological and pedagogical evolution of personalized education by advancing cutting-edge, ethically sound, and scientifically grounded adaptive systems that maximize human learning potential on a global scale.
